It's good at scooting under furniture and appears to be a good choice for people with hard floors or those who want to do light daily cleans. Its suction is a bit weaker than our top picks but it still does the job. It also has a large dirt bin and a battery that lasts for more than an hour. The app lets you schedule your daily cleaning or choose a specific room. It's also possible to map out your home, which could assist in avoiding areas you don't want it to visit. The app is easy to use and has a clear layout. It's not a full-featured app however, it's simple to use and lets you check the status of your robot. It comes with a tutorial that will walk you through the basics. The pattern of cleaning doesn't always appear logical – sometimes it is straight lines, other times it seeks out the edges of the room – however Bounce Navigation ensures your entire floor is kept clean. It is available in three models including the standard S7, the S7 MaxV Plus and the S7 MaxV Ultra. The latter model is the only one with an Empty Wash Fill Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). These docks let the robot return to its base following cleaning and empty the debris into a dust bag or reservoir, empty its clogged water tank and wash its mopping pad. The S7's sensors work to avoid obstacles and clean the floors. It can detect the types of floors, save the map of rooms and zones and even detect dirt levels. It's also capable of scheduling and running spot cleaning sessions. It did well in our tests, but it wasn't able to quite match the iRobot Roomba j7+ during the carpet deep clean test. With the companion app you can program the S7 to run a cleansing cycle according to your schedule. You can select the cleaning mode, such as automatic or eco, and a day, week or even a time. You can also decide whether the robot will stop if it runs out of power or comes across an obstacle. If you don't own an iPhone, you can still use the S7 by connecting a remote control to its charging dock. It can also be controlled with voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will inform you which power mode it is currently in—Eco, Normal, or Max. We didn't discover that any of the modes had a significant impact to the cleaning performance. After it has completed a cleaning cycle after which the IQ XL automatically empties the dustbin into its base, which then automatically emptys itself. Its bin holds up to 60 days' worth of trash, so it won't need emptying more often than that unless you have many pets with hair that is long. If you do need to empty it, simply remove the side container, hold it over your trash can and press the button. There's nothing to dislike about the Shark IQ XL, although it feels a bit less well-built than the Roomba 694. It clears lots of dirt from unfinished floors and does a good job at maneuvering itself, but it doesn't come as close to achieving the same performance as the iRobot Roomba i7 in terms of performance on carpeted surfaces. The i7 is also better-built and feels more durable. It is robust, has less demanding maintenance requirements, has lower recurring costs, charges faster while offering comparable battery performance and far more advanced automation features such as no-go zones and the ability to pick specific rooms to keep clean. iRobot j7+ This robot vac/mop combination is a rarity as it does both jobs exceptionally well. The iRobot Combo J7+ comes with all the advantages of its j7 counterpart, including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping however, it also comes with additional features for both mopping and vacuuming. The new acoustic sensors help the j7+ to identify flooring types, meaning it can choose between mopping and vacuuming during the first time it passes through the room. This information is also used to prioritize cleaning rooms that have carpets and rug versus those with hard flooring. Like most robotic vacuums, the j7+ is surprisingly quiet when running and it's quieter when mopping. The highest reading we could get on our decibel meter was 64db, which is comparable to the background noise of office chatter. It is easy to set up a cleaning schedule and change what happens when the dust canister gets full. The j7+ is also able to be controlled by voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) for a hands-free approach and the app allows you to create and view maps of your home. In our tests, we found that the j7+ performed well on carpeted and hard flooring, removing the majority of the dirt we threw at it. It isn't the best at dealing with pet hair and large particles like sand, but it can remove these items with a bit of effort. It also has decent navigation capabilities, as well as a pair of cliff sensors to stop it from falling down a flight of stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs. The J7+ has some small flaws, namely that it can get stuck on cords or rugs and does not always turn off the mopping function when it's done vacuuming.
